Silicon Valley Solidarity Run for Boston on Monday Evening

Picture 3Members of Silicon Valley’s running community are gathering in Mountain View on Monday, April 22, to run in solidarity with victims of the Boston Marathon bombings last Monday. A local running store is hosting the event, and will be taking orders for t-shirts as part of a fundraiser for The One Fund Boston.

The “Runners for Boston Solidarity Run” will take place at 6:30 p.m. along the Stevens Creek Trail. Anyone interested in participating in the four-mile fun run/walk is encouraged to meet before 6:30 p.m., by the Burger King in the Mountain View Shopping Center, 177 W. El Camino Real.

Picture 2Diana Keh of Cupertino’s Fitgeek Sports said the idea for the event came from a national group she belongs to, the Independent Running Retailers Association.

“We decided we wanted to do something to show our support and raise funds,” Keh said. Member stores all across the country are hosting similar events.

She said they are ordering limited edition t-shirts from a local printer that will show support for Boston. All the proceeds go to The One Fund Boston, which was launched this week by Boston businesses working in conjunction with Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino. They can be ordered at the Fitgeek store, at 21000 Stevens Creek Blvd., or at the run on Monday evening, and will be available in a couple of weeks.

Although the run/walk is four miles, Keh said anyone is invited to participate as much as they are able to. Everyone is encouraged to wear Boston Marathon gear—past or present—or the iconic blue and yellow colors of the historic race.
